TRIBUTE CONCERT FOR LOCAL MUSICIAN, MATTHEW SPERRY, TO BE HELD JULY 31 AT SAN FRANCISCO’S VICTORIA THEATRE

“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” creator and cast, other musicians, to perform in memory of well known bassist; Concert will raise funds for Sperry’s widow and two year old child

OAKLAND, CA – July 9, 2003 – One of the Bay Area’s brightest musical lights, bassist Matthew Sperry, was killed in a traffic accident on June 5. On July 31, a benefit concert will be held at San Francisco’s Victoria Theatre to raise funds in support of Matthew’s wife and their two year old daughter.

Sperry was a featured performer in the acclaimed San Francisco production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” which recently concluded a seven month run at the Victoria Theatre. Sperry also recorded with Tom Waits, David Byrne, and a host of musicians from the SF Bay Area and Seattle New Music scene.

“Hedwig” creator Stephen Trask, star Kevin Cahoon and Sperry’s colleagues in the “Hedwig” cast will headline the bill, which also includes members of the SF Bay Area New Music scene. Additional, surprise musical guests may also perform.
